  • Expo Pick Ups

Some people were saying there wasn't as much great stuff at Expo this time around. But I seem to have been able to cause all sorts of problems for myself as always. It was a pleasure meeting Stroh who flew in from the Southern States! Got some cool stuff from Jim, Bobby, Larry, Dave, Puck_That! and others (see below).

I set up a table at the show for the first time (though I set up at the monthly Halifax shows and first started setting up at shows in Winnipeg in the late 80s) and it was a modest success. I plan to continue that going forward in an ongoing effort to sell my doubles. It was more work but more fun too.

Got to meet two of my favourites, Darcy Tucker and Peter Mahovlich, as well as Jacques Laperriere, Marcel Dionne (who set up at the show) and Larry Hillman. All were good guys. Met Serge Savard as well (saltier than a pretzel).

Triple signed Dit Clapper letter to wife. In it, he complains about his linemates and expresses that he wishes he could play with Bill Cowley or Conney Weiland. He also makes it clear that he is disgruntled with the Bruins.

Socks of some of my favourite players - because who doesn't need those - then a poor condition auto sheet that includes Barilko and Broda, and complete Toronto Sun set from the 70s.

I really like these historical pictures, I looked at them and have similar Rocket related ones from the late 30's and 40's

I came across that 1907 Renfrew picture. Definitely caught my eye. A great pickup!

I was happy to see some of you at the show. Unfortunately, I had to leave after staying only a few hours due to ear infection (fluid in both of my ears). I felt dizzy the whole time and examining cards under my loupe made it worse. lol

By the way, did anyone notice that a FIREHOUSE SUBS restaurant opened near to the Expo? A few years ago the US company told me they had no plans on expanding into Canada, so it was nice to see that. I gotta' try it soon.

Thanks Billy. I have been in touch with Michel, and we are finalizing a deal now.

I was able to spot this Colgate Stamp within 3 mins of walking in the door (I guess that's what happens when you go to the right tables first) and as usual had a laugh with Larry and completed a great deal to start things off right on Day 1.

I can only show some of my purchases. Bobby offered to ship a box for me so that I could get everything home. Some of my really good stuff won't be here until next week, but here are some pics of a few things I found.

I bought 3 Leafs programs. I got Ed Shack to autograph this one at the Expo and i was close to getting Red Kelly to autograph another one, but he had to leave early. The long line of fans was too much for him. I left the program with the promoters and they agreed to get it signed and ship it to me.
I found about 22 graded cards from the 1939 OPC set including the first card and this Charlie Conacher. I bought my first Paulins card with this Bullet Joe Simpson rookie, a couple of
1923 William Patterson's, a 1933 OPC single for my B Series set, and this 1936 OPC Harvey Jackson. I found 25 graded 1957 Topps cards including this Johnny Bucyk rookie and a number of Tall Boys including this Jean Beliveau.
I'm not normally a wrapper collector, but I really loved these 1936 and 1937 OPC wrappers.
I almost forgot the 1934 Silver Diamond Matchbook proof of Dit Clapper.
