  • Where were the Blackhawks?

Anyone know why the Stanley Cup winning Chicago Blackhawks - and specifically inaugural HOF’er Charlie Gardiner - were not included in the 1933 O Pee Chee set? American teams like the Americans and Falcons were included, so it was seemingly not due to nationality.

A 1933 OPC Gardiner would have been amazing.

Wow all these years never noticed that good eye Anish, as far as reason goes who knows?

I never noticed that either - good catch!

Now I just did a little research and it looks like the Blackhawks were excluded from the 33' Ice Kings set as well. Weird.

        Yes, excellent catch. Well done.

Maybe they were too busy posing for pictures on Matchbooks...

I am betting that back in that time frame the Blackhawks Organization did not allow the license to produce cards from there team for maybe disagreeing with the contract terms? Just a guess.

Let's not forget that a few members of the Chicago team also appeared in the 33' V252 Canadian Gum set (including Charlie Gardiner).

              And Lionel Conacher
My two favourite cards from that set, glad they got the hawks in there set.
