  • October Pick Ups

I bought this Blueline Magazine mail-away colour photo of Andy Bathgate from Jim on eBay in September but picked it up today at the Montreal show in October. Interesting to note that it is a reverse negative as the "A" on his jersey and TEX (artist's signature - Tex Coulter) are backwards. Also to note that it is different than the Andy Bathgate I already had in my collection (see both variations below). Maybe the first photo was pulled when they realized they screwed up?

Re: the Bill Gadsby item. Do you know what photo it was used to created?

Yes - Gadsby printing block was used for his J D McCarthy postcard.

For Red Wing collectors in the '60s and '70s (or even today) there's very little that beats a J.D. McCarthy black & white postcard.
His later colour issues paled by comparison!! :-(

Attachment This one really appealed to me for some reason, Earl Seibert 1941 dated autographed photo:

Love that. Might be the most underrated player of all time (Seibert).

Here's a 1979 Edmonton Oilers (WHA) Team Issued 18th Birthday Program Insert Photo of Wayne Gretzky. This photo was inserted into game programs at the January 26th, 1979 WHA Edmonton Oilers game when Wayne signed his big 21-year "personal services" contract with Peter Pocklington's Oilers.

Nice pick up, too bad he does not sign that clean anymore even though it is a simulated auto it shows how nice the real one was back in his early days.

        Joliat wearing a helmet!
Cool photo. It's like the Canada Starch photo but with names printed right on the photo. Also it looks like a real photo, not a printed photo. Very Nice!

It is a real photo. Joliat always covered his head as he was embarrassed by his male pattern baldness.

Yes I'm used to seeing him wearing the little dark ball cap, but the leather helmet is a little more unusual - maybe to protect an injury (?).
I also often wear a baseball cap for a similar reason (thinning hair not an injury).
I like the idea of a leather helmet though - it would make quite the fashion statement.

Look at the guy wearing the hat in the middle top row - was he inserted there later on?

This is an early Edmonton Oilers lot of autos.Including many hall of fame players. Including the great one Wayne Gretzky,Mark Messier, Paul Coffey, and a whole lot more. As far as I can tell and with a bit of reference this is a list of who all signed this item.Take note of the early Gretzky auto. I do plan on having this item and its auto certified.I know it will likely sell a bit easier if I decide to do so.Thanks.

Some nice pick ups this month by many. I just acquired a (set?) of 15 different 1932-33 Boston Bruins photos, looks like a team set. 7 Hall of Fam'ers Eddie Shore, Tiny Thompson, Dit Clapper, Billy Burch, Nels Stewart, Marty Barry and Harry Oliver, with 8 others. The Joe Lamb is my favourite as he is doing a cool pose with a smirk. Certainly Type-1. It will be nice to offer this out at the Expo.

This was the last time the Bruins used this logo on their Jersey, I believe these are actually from 1933-34 pre-season, with checking who is and is not on the team.

The Shore photo resembles the one used on his Triumph postcard, maybe they were taken at the same time? Cool stuff Bobby!

I do know that the Shore, Clapper, Stewart, Lamb and (Lionel Hitchman, not pictured) were used in the 1933 OPC.
              Working...
